How do I set-up a mail redirect (or forwarding address)?

By setting up a redirect on an e-mail account, you are in fact telling the server that any e-mails that come into that account should in fact be sent to another address.

This has a number of uses, including sending mail onto another domain (e.g. if you have two domains, example.com and example.net, you can create mail@example.com and set it to redirect all e-mail to mail@example.net, meaning you only have to setup one account for both domains). You can also use it when a member of staff is away on holiday and you wish to forward their mail onto another account until they come back.

It's also worth noting, that when you setup a redirect on an e-mail account the mail will only be forwarded. The server will not save the mail in a mailbox, regardless of if you have one setup or not. If you wish to forward mail on and save mail in the mailbox as well, we recommend you setup a Mail Group, but with only one recipient.

Setup

  • First, log onto the Plesk Control Panel
(all details can be found in the 'Account Details' e-mail, dispatched
to you when your account is activated).
  • If you have logged on
at the Client Level (this is the default level), please click on the
name of the domain you wish to add the e-mail address to. This will
    load the domain's settings page.
  • Now click on the Mail icon followed by the name of the e-mail account on which you wish to setup the redirect.
  • Click on Redirect.
  • Select the tick-box for Redirect to enable the setting and enter the e-mail address to forward the mail onto in the Redirect address field.
  • Click OK.

This change is instant, and all new incoming e-mails will now be forwarded directly onto the e-mail address you have just entered.
