Can I upgrade my hosting account with you?

Yes, you can upgrade your hosting package with us at any time. However, you can only upgrade to a package that is within the same group as your current one. Currently, there are two groups:

  • Shared (eMail, Home & Professional types)

  • Reseller

This is due to each group requiring separately configured servers. If you wish to change groups, we will need to perform a migration. Please Submit a Ticket to the Billing Team to discuss your requirements.

So, how does it work?

Upgrading to another packages consists of a number of steps. First, you must run the Upgrade Wizard in ModernBill to select which package you want to upgrade to. This will change your account settings (within ModernBill) and issue an invoice for the cost of the upgrade (see below) which needs to be paid. If you would like us to run the upgrade for you, please Submit a Ticket to the Billing Team.

Next, you must pay any relevant invoices on your account. Once all invoices have been cleared, your request will be added to the queue to be processed.

Finally, our systems will update the limits on your account in Plesk with the new values for the package you have chosen. In the event of an error during the upgrade, we will have to apply the new settings manually.

Although Plesk will update your account's limits, it will not update any of your domains. It is up to you to adjust the limits on any domain you have on your account. For more information on how to do this, please see our article 'How do I manage domain limits in Plesk?'

How is the upgrade price calculated?

There is no fixed cost as part of an upgrade - you pay on a pro-rata bases, where the number of days left until your account's next renewal is multiplied by the daily price difference between the two packages. For example:

A customer purchased a H25 on 12th February 2006 for £19.75. On the 15th April 2006 they selected to upgrade to the H105 (yearly price £49.50).

The price different between the two packages is £29.75. Divided by 365 (for the whole year) makes 8.1507 pence per day. As they have used 63 days of the hosting (17 days for February, 21 for March and 15 for April), they only need to be charged for 302 days (365-63).

Therefore, their upgrade cost is 302×0.081507 or £24.62 (including VAT).

If you have already been invoiced for the next period, then when you upgrade, that invoice will not be changed. Instead, the number of days used to calculate at upgrade cost will include the remainder of the current period and all of the next period as well. For example:

The same customer wants to upgrade their H25 package to a H105 package. Bought on 12th February 2006, today is the 3rd February 2007, and 5 days ago they were invoiced (at the H25 rate) for 2007/2008. That invoice was for £19.75.

Although there is 9 days left in this year, as the invoice for the next has gone out, it must be included as well. Therefore their upgrade code is (365+9)×0.081507 or £30.48.

If you would like a quote or more information about upgrades, or have a problem with your upgrade, please to our Billing Team.
