How to setup an anonymous FTP account

Anonymous FTP accounts work on the IP address of the request in order to decide which domain they belong to (and hence which files to serve and who to 'charge' the bandwidth to). Therefore, you must contact our Support or Sales teams to upgrade your account with it's own dedicated (or exclusive) IP address before Anonymous FTP will work.

Once your account is on an exclusive IP address the Anonymous FTP icon will be enabled and therefore allow you to setup the account.

Setup

  • First, log onto the Plesk Control Panel (all details can be found in the 'Account Details' e-mail, dispatched to you when your account is activated).
  • If you have logged on at the Client Level (this is the default level), please click on the name of the domain you wish to add the e-mail address to. This will load the domain's settings page.
  • From the third row of icons (below 'Hosting...') click on Anonymous FTP.
  • By default Anonymous FTP is enabled on accounts supporting it, however this access is read-only. If you wish to allow uploading (i.e. write access via the incoming directory), enable Allow uploaded to incoming directory.
  • Anonymous FTP still counts towards your bandwidth usage. If you wish to limit the rate at which transfers take place (you can only control the total rate of downloads, not the amount that's downloaded), enable and specify Limit download bandwidth for this virtual FTP domain.
  • Further settings, such as the Welcome message and Limit number of simultaneous connections can be set as you need them.
  • When you are happy with the settings, click OK.
