How do I update the name-servers for my domain?

In order for a domain name to work and for visitors to be able to find the server that hosts it, there must be at least two name servers associated with it. It is these name servers which have responsibility for providing the address of the server your domain is located.

As part of the sign-up process you will have been allocated both a server and a set of name servers which you can use for the domains on your account. Please see this e-mail for more information. If you are unsure, please Submit a Ticket to our Support Team who will let you know which ones you can use.

How to Update Your Name-servers

These steps will only work for domain names that have been either registered with or transferred to us. If we are not the registrar of your domain, then please contact your current registrar for support on changing the name-servers with them.

To change your name-servers, please complete the following steps:

  • Log onto ModernBill using your e-mail address and password.

  • You will now see your account's Dashboard. This contains a brief overview of your account.

  • From the menu, hover over My Sites & click on My Domains.

  • You will now be shown a list of domains you have registered with us. Click on the name of the domain you want to change the details on.

  • The next few pages will take a little longer to load as our system will need to talk to our registrar to fetch and submit data.

  • When loaded, click on Change DNS to the left-hand side.

  • If not selected, select Use the following name-servers option. The name-server fields below will become enabled.

  • Input the names-servers as needed (removing any you no longer need).

  • Click Submit changes.

  • If you return back to the page with any errors, please correct those errors and click Submit changes again.

The new settings will be sent to our registrar and the domain updated accordingly. It can take up to 30 minutes for the settings to be changed on their servers and then up to 24-72 hours for the new settings to propagate around the Internet.
