How do I delete an alias from an e-mail account?

If you wish to separate an alias address from one account and give it it's own account (or transfer it to another account), or delete it, you will need to remove it from the account it belongs to.

You cannot create a new account for an address that already exists (i.e. it an alias or full account), nor can you create an alias on a new account using an address already in use. You can only create an address that doesn't exist - transferring is not supported.

Setup

  • First, log onto the Plesk Control Panel (all details can be found in the 'Account Details' e-mail, dispatched to you when your account is activated).
  • If you have logged on at the Client Level (this is the default level), please click on the name of the domain you wish to remove the alias(es) from. This will load the domain's settings page.
  • Now click on the Mail icon followed by the name of the e-mail account.
  • For each alias you wish to remove, select the tick-box to the far-right of each alias.
  • Click Remove Selected.
  • On the following page, select the tick-box for Confirm removal to confirm you wish to make this change (as it cannot be undone) and then click OK.

As with creating aliases, this change is instant and the server will stop listening for that address until you create it again (either as a full account or as an alias on another account).
